Week 2: Homework Prep Task 4

Teen Punishment The film explores the theme of teen punishment, through the killing of the dumb blonde/prostitute. Due to her promiscuous ways and sexual nature the dumb blonde is killed off first in the movie, this is due to the religious aspects of horror movies, as it shows that she is killed for her sins. Also she dies as she is about to have sex with her boyfriend which is interesting, and gives a message to the audience. Jules Dancing The plan was for the virgin to live until the end, and for the other to die, as she is pure because she is still a virgin and they believe that she doesn’t need to be punished for any sins, as she has lived a good clean life. Gender & Sexuality The film shows the men of the group taking control and protecting the females, which reflects the patriarchal society that we live in as men are seen as superior and women are seen as inferior. Also the prostitute was punished for her sexual ways, whereas the men were not, also reflects the i

Week 2 - Homework prep Task 3.

The film uses different subgenres of horror; for example it uses splatter, monster, j horror psychological and slasher. J horror is used in an interesting way, as it shows he difference between the American system and the Japanese system, as it tries to convey that the Japanese people are able to resolve their problems and go back to being peaceful, whereas the Americans are unable to resolve their problems which makes the society corrupt. The props and items were used in an interesting way as they had symbolic meanings, for example the items that all the characters picked up were symbolic of their death, as we were showed towards the end when the 2 characters were in the cube and the ballerina and the man holding the item they both picked up, symbolised the way that they were meant to die. A convention that the film used in an interesting way is the characters. There were typical characters such as the prostitute, the virgin, the scholar, the fool and the athlete. In this cas

Analysis of 3 existing horror trailers

The Devil Inside 2012 - Psychological https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWPGSbHlI2w The Devil inside is a horror movie that is from the psychological sub-genre of horror . It has typical conventions of a horror movie, as it includes religion, and the typical theme of Good vs Evil, as the main character Isabella is trying to cast the evil spirit out of her mother. The movie also has typical editing skills of a horror movie as it uses fade and cut alot for the transitioning between scenes. The trailer is also based on a true story, as it states in the beginning that the recording is of a real phone call. The mise-en-scene used is effective, as the characters costume and make up suits the role that they are playing. for example The mother has cuts on her hand, and her costume is dirty and almost resembles rags, which suits her role, as she is in a mental hospital and she is possessed.   Antichrist 2009 - Slasher https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4U5rdi9w-U Antichr

Lights can symbolise life, death, peace transition and escape. For example in poltergeist “Don't go into the light” is said. Sometimes light can represent absence if comfort and relief, e.g sunlight. Other forms of lights such as candles, flashlights & lanterns are used when the character is in a dark secluded area, they are also used to spot the villain. Colours can be use to symbolise, themes and powers, for example Red is normally associated with evil e.g the red queen from resident of evil. Black is normally associated with death and evil e.g The Woman in black. White is seen as pure, angelic and innocent and earth tones are associated with goo. Weapons are normally phallic
