Creativity Summary - 500 words

Without Technology people would not be able to create or produce most the work, that they have thought about. During this post-modern age that we are currently living in, we rely on Digital technology, due to the fact mostly everything now is on a device. For example, during the creation of my AS coursework, we used cameras, and computers to help produce our work. On the computers we used software’s such as Photoshop and adobe in design to create our work. As were currently living in a society where people use social media and technological devises in their everyday lives, people have been able to create social media accounts and express their selves through there, by uploading pictures or sharing their opinions on certain topics.

Intertextuality is a major consideration in creativity. As we are living is a post modern age, intertextuality is becoming more common in media text. People are able to sample other peoples work, and adapt it, which then becomes a new production. For example, the two animated series ‘Family Guy’ and ‘The Simpsons’ are both very similar and attract the same type of audience. This is because the two series have both taken ideas similar ideas, or maybe even taken ideas from each other and adapted it, to make their own productions.

Creativity doesn’t always have to be original. The majority of the artist and music producer’s productions are sampled from music created in the past. For example, the song ‘I like it’ by DeBarge has been a sample by dozens of artist to create popular songs, such as ‘You Like It’ by Omarion and ‘My Place’ by Nelly. How ever they are able to add their own ideas to the song and remix it. This is making them creative as their song wasn’t created before they created it. Another example for this point would be the story of Cinderella. This story has been made into a movie multiple times, by different people, however they interpreted it in different ways and added their own ideas. Every time the story was remade into a movie, the character of Cinderella would be changed to fit the society during the time. In the latest Cinderella created, the character of Cinderella became more independent and courageous. This is a reflection in todays post-modern society as women s roles are changing.

The act of production is being creative, as you are able to produce something which is being creative. People normally base creativity on being unique and creating something that has never been created before, or using your imagination. However, if someone has produced something that has never been created before then you are creative. For example, in my AS course work, I used the same template as another magazine but, I was still being creative as I enhanced my own ideas, into my production. E.g. Taking my own photos or changing the font, and colours, which made me creative.

In conclusion, through studying media, and being given the opportunity to produce my own Music magazine and Horror Teaser Trailer, I have developed as a Post-Modern Media Producer. This is due to my ability on being able to use digital technology to create my projects. Through this I was able to intertextually take ideas from others and enhance my own into them, to create a successful product. However even though my products were not original, I was to able to be creative by producing my own work, which has never been made before.

Audience Essay

The aim of our project was to create a horror teaser trailer. The name of our trailer is ‘Shinigami’, which is about teenagers who trespass on someone else’s property and they are then chased by the antagonist. Our trailer explores the themes Good vs Evil and team punishment. Our target audience are teenagers and young adults between the ages 16-24. We chose this age as they attend the cinemas the most and they are the main horror fans. There are a selection of reasons, as to why the audience would watch horror movies. This may be due to the thrill and excitement that they received, to divert their attention away from the real world, and to express their emotions. The two different types of audience theorists are the Mass Audience  theorist, who believe that everyone reacts to the media in the same way. And the Active Audience who argue that media texts are polysemic and everyone can interpret media text in different ways. The Hypodermic model supports the Mass Audience theorist,...

Media Language Essay

Horror films use established signs and codes in their conventions to signify a deeper meaning. For example written codes such as the masthead would connote the genre of the movie or product. In my horror trailer the weapons and stock characters, which are both parts of the mise-en-scene that comes under symbolic codes. Theorist Roland Barthes makes a distinction between Denotatin and Connotation, which allow people to introduce the content and then also go into detail. Symbolic codes help with the subtext of the trailer. As they are a form of NVC. for example in Insidious: The Last Key, the antagonists finger tips are keys, this is also used as a weapon. The use of the keys signifies secrecy or confinement. In our A2 media trailer the antagonist weapon, which are claws, have anphallic symbolism. This connotes the masculine power men have, also showing that men are the dominating sex. Technical codes such as the camera work allow the viewers to have a visual understanding of the tra...
